Privacy policy
- We collect what Peerly needs to work: your account, where you study, and what you share.
- Other students see your name, school, course and level. Your email stays private.
- We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
- You can ask to see, fix or delete your data at any time.
1. Who is responsible
Peerly Concepts runs Peerly and decides how your personal data is used. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
2. What we collect
- Account: your name, email address and password. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and we never see them. If you continue with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
- Where you study: university, faculty, department, course and level.
- What you share: files you upload and their titles, course requests, the skills you tell us you can offer, and messages you send to support.
- Waitlist: your email address, if you join the waitlist on our website.
- Technical: basic information our hosting provider records to keep the service secure and working, such as IP address, browser type and error logs. Your browser also keeps a few settings on your device, like which curriculum you last viewed.
- Bot protection: Peerly uses Google reCAPTCHA to tell real visitors from automated ones. It looks at signals like how the page is used and your browser details, under Google's own privacy policy.
3. Why we use it
- To create your account and keep it secure.
- To show you the right courses, materials and people for where you study.
- To review uploads, prevent duplicates, spam and abuse, and act on reports.
- To tell you about your account and, if you asked, when new features open at your campus.
- To understand how Peerly is used so we can improve it, using totals rather than individual tracking.
We rely on our agreement with you (to provide Peerly), our legitimate interest in keeping it safe and useful, and your consent where we ask for it (for example, the waitlist). You can withdraw consent at any time.
4. Who can see what
Signed-in students can see your name, university, department, course, level, verified badge, and the files you've shared (with your first name). Your email address, the skills you told us about and your support messages are visible only to you and the Peerly team.
5. Who we share it with
We use Google Firebase to sign you in and to store data and files, and Google reCAPTCHA to keep bots out. Its servers for Peerly are in London, United Kingdom. Google processes this data for us under its data processing terms and not for its own purposes. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it, or to protect someone from serious harm. We never sell personal data.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your profile and personal details within 30 days, except for what we must keep by law. Files you shared may stay available to other students without your name attached, unless you ask us to remove them too. Waitlist emails are deleted once your campus opens or when you ask.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or move it to another service. Send a request from your profile and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited by security rules we test, and only a small team can review uploads and support requests. No system is perfect, so if we ever have a breach that affects you, we'll tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
9. Age
Peerly isn't for anyone under 16. If we learn we have data from someone younger, we'll delete it.
10. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
11. Contact
For anything about your data, send us a message from your Peerly profile. See also our terms of use.
